I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Argosy University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Seattle Pacific University.
In reflection of my past years as a teenager, what I wanted most was someone to listen and value what I was communicating to them, for someone to actually accept what I was saying and be on my side, not to be another adult telling me what I need to do or behavior’s to change, but rather, be my equal counterpart. I wanted a connection and to feel safe that what I was saying was being understood. In that safe place I would feel free to open up and not be judged.
My clinical approach is based within a humanistic/existential lens in that humans are naturally good and have the innate desire for personal growth and to live life to their fullest potential. We have the freedom to choose alternatives, playing a role to shape our destinies. Having the freedom to choose what we want for ourselves while remembering that our past is valuable to whom we are today. Our world consists of our genetic nature and our environment, but the human condition is never fixed. Regardless of the roadblocks we are faced within our lives, we have the drive and motivation to become our best selves.
Using strength and evidence based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) as well as a Person-Centered approach. I emphasize the value of building a genuine trustworthy therapeutic relationship and rapport with my clients. Providing a non-judgmental environment where the client is able to express themselves freely. In offering a context for my clients to change, I place a high regard in respect to the client’s experience.
My post-graduate work includes working in community mental health within the Seattle Public School District as a Mental Health Care Coordinator. Within my role I provide individual therapy with evidence based practices with children, adolescents and teens with various domains of social/emotional barriers and crisis support. My services are based in an educational and mental health setting which I facilitate wraparound services and support plans that aide in supporting students/clients and families. I provide psycho-education to school staff in addressing academic, social/emotional and environmental barriers.
My areas of expertise include working with a diverse population of children, teens, adolescents and families with social, emotional and behavioral concerns such as mood and anxiety based disorders, ADHD, oppositional and conduct disorder, trauma, grief and loss, self-harm, attachment issues, family and relationship issues. Additionally, familiar in working with community based organization and systems.
